The “Bit-in” Forbidden Fruit

Illustration of Adam and Eve reacting to the forbidden fruit

The Serpent did his trick. Eve had a choice to make; life or death. And what choice did she make?

The woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good to eat. It was also pleasing to look at. And it would make a person wise. So she took some of the fruit and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her. And he ate it. Then both of them knew things they had never known before. Genesis 3:6-7

God had warned Adam and Eve to stay away from the tree or they would die. The Serpent twisted the truth just enough to give Eve doubts. I’ve often wondered if they thought the Serpent had told the truth when they didn’t die right away. Did they believe they would immediately drop dead?

Instead of a quick death, Their death would be slow. Their souls would feel dead long before their bodies died. Adam and Even knew what it was like to spend time walking with God in the garden. Now they could no longer do that. Now that they ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, they had to figure things out for themselves. For the first time, they had to experience life without God.

The only problem is, life without God isn’t really life at all. It’s like being a part of the living dead.

You will surely die

In the Bible, it doesn’t take long before trouble begins to brew.

“But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.”

Genesis 2:17 (King James Version)

God was direct and clear when he warned Adam and Eve not to touch that tree. We don’t know how long it was before the warning and when the serpent tempted Eve. In the Bible, it’s only the next chapter. Adam and Eve had major trouble following directions. Unfortunately, all of humanity has been following their lead from the beginning.

In the garden, the first couple knew nothing of death. Did they understand what death would do to them? Did they realize it would be a slow, laborious death instead of an instant expiration? We don’t know. However, an instant death was not meant to be. If they died immediately, they would be with God immediately. That wouldn’t have been much of a punishment, would it?

The death they would experience was to be disconnected with God while they wasted away on Earth for hundreds of years. They could no longer commune with God like they did in the garden. They would become the living dead, and drag all of humanity with them. They would be stuck with the memory of what it was like before they made that choice. They would feel dead inside, though they were very much alive. They would witness the sin and death of their own children. Did they realize that? Who knows!

All I know is I wish I could have been there to shout, “Listen to God! You want to LIVE, not be a zombie!”

Zombie talk grows

This morning, I came across an Associated Press article saying zombie talk was growing due to some horrifying incidents:

“After gory incidents, online ‘zombie’ talk grows”

It appears when we hear of people doing horrible things to others, we think only a zombie can do that. Even bad news in the European economies have created terms like “zombie banks, zombie economy and zombie governments.”

Ever since sin came into the world, we’ve been dealing with death. Sin is like a zombie virus. Thankfully, there is hope in someone who beat the zombie virus and took the pain and death for us.

He gave us a new life even when we were dead in sin. God’s grace has saved you. Ephesians 2:5

Augh! Zombies are out there! And YOU may be one of them!

The world was perfect until two people messed things up and released the zombie virus. The living dead have been walking among us ever since! Zombies are everywhere. You may even be infected with the virus and not know it. Don’t take it personally. All humans are infected. What can you do?

Never fear! In Attack of the Zombies, you’ll see only one man in history wasn’t infected. He brought a cure for all of us. The secret is in the Bible in Ephesians 2:1-5.

Are you tired of being one of the living dead? Read this book and you can discover the cure too.
